DESCRIPTION:## Course content\nThis course provides a practical introductio
 n to the writing of Python programs for the complete novice. Participants 
 are led through the core aspects of Python illustrated by a series of exam
 ple programs. Upon completion of the course\, attentive participants will 
 be able to write simple Python programs from scratch and to customize more
  complex code to fit their needs.\n\n## Format\nThis course runs in parall
 el on-site in Uppsala\, Umeå and Lund. Lectures will be streamed online f
 rom one site to the other two\, the host site will differ depending on who
  is lecturing. Several teaching assistants will be present in all three cl
 assrooms all week to help with exercises and questions. When registering y
 ou will be asked to which site you apply.\n\nThe course consists of a mix 
 of presentations\, demonstrations\, and practical exercises (either in the
  lab with assistants or on your own). Prior to the course\, you can read a
  companion book “Programming Python”\, or “Learning Python”. Such 
 a book will also prove useful for your programming tasks\, after the cours
 e is over. It is however not required\, and material will be presented in 
 class.\n\n## Topics covered will include:\n* Core concepts about Python sy
 ntax: Data types\, blocks and indentation\, variable scoping\, iteration\,
  functions\, methods and arguments\n* Different ways to control program fl
 ow using loops and conditional tests\n* Regular expressions and pattern ma
 tching\n* Writing functions and best-practice ways of making them usable\n
 * Reading from and writing to files\n* Code packaging and Python libraries
 \n* How to work with biological data using external libraries.\n\n## Cours
 e fee\nA course fee* of 3000 SEK for academic participants and 15000 SEK f
 or non-academic participants will be invoiced to accepted participants. Th
 e fee includes lunches\, coffee and snacks\, and a course dinner.\n*Please
