DESCRIPTION:Modern neuroscience and biology increasingly rely on large-scal
 e\, time-resolved datasets\, including electrophysiology\, calcium and lon
 gitudinal imaging\, quantitative behavior\, physiological measurements\, a
nd multimodal recordings.\n\nSignals and States provides doctoral students
with a conceptual and practical framework for analysing such data. The co
urse focuses on how to formulate well-posed scientific questions\, select
appropriate quantitative approaches\, interpret high-dimensional structure
and temporal dynamics\, and critically assess what can and cannot be infe
 rred from complex datasets.\n\nThrough lectures\, discussion\, and hands-o
n practical sessions\, participants will work with topics including high-d
imensional representations\, dimensionality reduction\, neural and biologi
cal dynamics\, state transitions\, quantitative behavior\, encoding and de
coding\, model validation\, and the distinction between association\, pred
iction\, and causal interpretation.\n\nNeuroscience provides the principal
conceptual framework and teaching examples\, while the analytical princip
les are broadly applicable across biology and biomedicine.
