Evaluate & Archive

Archiving should be done for all SciLifeLab training, in order to create a record of the materials and people involved. As a first step, ensure all metadata about your training instance has been recorded using the Metadata Checklist. If you haven’t already, upload slides, exercises, and other materials to the training website or page you have created as part of the training development process.

If you have recorded aspects of your training, you can upload these to the SciLifeLab Talks & Training YouTube Channel. You can also provide a transcript or summary of a lecture or instruction using the SciLifeLab Training Hub WhisperAI app. Contact the SciLifeLab Training Hub for assistance with this.

To facilitate sustainable access to your materials, comply with Swedish requirements for Open Educational Resources, and give proper credit for the training you have developed, materials should be archived in a repository. The SciLifeLab Data Repository is maintained by the SciLifeLab Data Centre and is a good option for training that has been developed by and for our community. The SciLifeLab Zenodo Community is another option that allows training to be associated with other EU project communities. Training materials submitted to the Zenodo community are moderated by the Training Hub.

To enable reuse and findability of your training materials, you may wish to link your materials to Life Science communities in Sweden or the EU. Within Sweden, the platform Grena.nu collects open educational resources through a collaborative initiative headed by SUHF’s Working Group for Open Educational Resources (Arbetsgruppen för öppna lärresurser).

At the EU level, ELIXIR’s TeSS (Training e-support system) collects training instances and materials to support leveraging computational resources in the life sciences. Over 100 providers, including EMBL, the Swiss Institute for Bioinformatics, and SciLifeLab’s NBIS platform have contributed to this library of training resources. The SciLifeLab Training Hub works in close collaboration with the ELIXIR TeSS community to bring the life science community in Sweden the centralized Training Portal.

During the archiving process we recommend to have a final meeting with all instructors to collect impressions and reflections while they are still fresh. Making and archiving a list of any recommended changes can assist in developing future iterations of the training.

For SciLifeLab reporting purposes, ensure you collect the number of participants that attended your training. If your training has been announced in the SciLifeLab Training Portal, the Training Hub can also upload this information in the SciLifeLab Annual Reporting period.
